Altstadtquartier Regensburg - The traces of the centuries

In many places in the AltstadtQuartier Muenchner Hof there are traces of long-gone architectural styles that testify to centuries of building history. Gothic wooden ceilings, baroque floors, medieval support beams and various door arches. Restorations in the 20th and 21st centuries not only uncovered these details, but wherever possible their old use was restored. Even today you pass through the low medieval doorway into a modern hotel room, and small baroque doors still close.

A massive stone tower offered the safest protection against the feared city fires in the Middle Ages. The living rooms, on the other hand, were built from wood. You mostly find horizontally layered beams with powerful corner posts. This was the traditional wooden construction method in Regensburg. However, only wealthy patrician families could afford this type of residential tower and plank room. They were the fine parlours of distinguished people.

Only a few of these so-called plank rooms have been completely preserved. In the AltstadtQuartier Muenchner Hof there is one of these rooms, discovered during renovation work in 1994. It has been almost completely preserved and integrated into the hotel operations.
